Society of Surgeons of Nepal mourns the untimely demise of Dr Moin Shah, who passed away on July 25 at the age of 82. He was the founding dean of the Institute of Medicine. Despite seemingly insurmountable odds spearheaded undergraduate medical education in the country.
Born into a merchant family in Chettrapati, Kathmandu, he was a diligent student from the onset, securing the Board First in School Leaving Certificate in 1949. He pursued his higher education at Tri-Chandra College in Kathmandu, followed by MBBS at the Osmania Medical College in Hyderabad and returned to Nepal in 1958. He was a fellow at the Royal College of Surgeons in London, Glasgow and then Edinburgh. He finally returned Nepal and laid the foundation for the medical education in the country. He will be deeply missed by the surgical fraternity.
